GC-MS WITH SUPERSONIC MOLECULAR BEAMS – THE
QUEST FOR ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE GC-MS
Prof. Aviv Amirav
Tel-Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel
Website: www.tau.ac.il/chemistry/amirav/
Email: amirav@tau.ac.il
Prof. Amirav was born in Tel Aviv in 1950. Both B.Sc.
(1974) and Ph.D. (direct course, 1979) were received
from the Tel-Aviv University, School of Chemistry, with
Summa cum Laude.
Since 1980 he is a senior academic stuff (lecturer) at the school of chemistry
of Tel-Aviv University (no post doc) and a Professor of Chemistry at Tel Aviv
University from 1989.
Prof. Amirav received 2 major international awards:
1. The Heinrich Emanuel Merck Prize for “Achievements in Analytical Chemistry”,
given on the work “Pulsed Flame Photometer – A Novel Gas Chromatography
Detector” at the opening ceremony of Euroanalysis VIII at Edinburgh Scotland,
1993.
2. HTC Award for “The Most Outstanding and Innovative Work in the Field
of Hyphenated Chromatographic Techniques”, given on the development of
GC-MS and LC-EI-MS with Supersonic Molecular Beams at the closing ceremony
of the HTC 7 meeting in Brugge, Belgium, 2002.
He has 164 peer review papers plus 23 booklets and other non peer review publications
and 15 Patents in 58 countries. Two patents on the Pulsed Flame Photometric
Detector (PFPD) and ChromatoProbe sample introduction device are commercially
available products in worldwide use in broad range of applications.
His current research area is Analytical Instrument Development with emphasis
on analytical mass spectrometry with supersonic molecular beams – GC-MS
and LC-MS.
