Pre Conference Event
Gel Permeation Chromatrography (GPC) Systems in Pharmaceutical Applications
Theoretical and Practical Considerations
Behind Advanced, Multi-detector Size-Exclusion Chromatography (SEC)
In collaboration with
Dr. Mark Pothecary, UK
17 January 2010
14:30 - 18:30
Lev Hakongressim, Weizmann Science Park, Golda Mair 5, Ness Ziona
GPC/SEC is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry. Its applications include QC as well as research where it is used for both purification and sample analysis. Historically, GPC was used to measure only molecular weight, but now it can be used to measure concentration, molecular weight, molecular size and structural aspects all in one. These values are individually interesting but when combined and compared between samples enable many questions about sample and product quality and differences to be answered.
This half day seminar will provide theoretical and practical overview to measurements with GPC/SEC. The emphasis will be on practical considerations and what is needed to achieve good measurements as well as a look at what can be achieved with modern advanced GPC/SEC detectors.
Benefits to the Participants
- Get an overview of the theory behind advanced GPC/SEC detection techniques, concentration, light scattering & intrinsic viscosity.
- Learn about practical and sample considerations for getting high quality GPC/SEC measurements.
- Recognize good and poor quality data and what different symptoms represent..
Learn about the range of applications available to this technique.
Issues to be covered
- GPC separation and detector theory
- Practical considerations and data quality
- Data analysis
Who should attend
This seminar will benefit users and potential users of GPC/SEC within the pharmaceutical industry who wish to learn more about the principles and considerations behind the techniques. Furthermore, project and laboratory managers who may be considering the potential of the addition of GPC/SEC to a laboratory will benefit from seeing the range of applications to which GPC/SEC can be applied.
About the Speaker
Dr. Mark Pothecary has been the product technical specialist for separations at Malvern instruments for 2 years. As well as a strong theoretical understanding of the principles behind GPC/SEC he spends considerable time in the lab working with a range of customer samples leading to broad practical experience as well.
